Brown paper packages

I intentionally left my gift wrapping to the last minute, because I try to find things to do on Christmas morning as I’m alone (my kids are with their father until dinner time).

Over the year, I save every little bit of ribbon that I get and throw it in to a box. I really like the look of brown kraft paper to wrap gifts in, so that is what I used.

I pulled out ribbon, baubles, ornaments and embroidery thread to embellish each of these gifts.  Frugal and environmentally friendly as most things are recycled.

This has been a pretty tough year. I definitely didn’t participate in the camaraderie of blogging as much as usual. After the passing of my sister on Jan. 1st, both of my parents became ill. Currently they are both in the hospital, unfortunately two different ones. It is an odd Christmas without my sister and even odder that my parents aren’t in their home.

Well, enough of the maudlin words, I have a turkey to get in to the oven, then I will pick up my kids and bring them home. I can’t wait! :)

Merry Christmas and here’s hoping to a wonderful new year.

  4. Hi Mel,

I use the brown paper too, also butcher paper - looks great and goes with any sort of ribbon. Your packages look wonderful.

The holiday was a little sad for me too without my brother. I'm sorry to hear your parents are ill, and hope they will make a full recovery.

Hope you and the kids had a lovely Christmas together. Take care!

  5. I cannot imagine the challenge of having your parents i separate hospitals at the same time. I can empathize with your children being away with their other parent. we have the situation with grandchildren and plans that are like mmercury with the other parent.

  6. That is awful about your parents being in two different hospitals! Sorry to hear about that, Mel. I hope you had a lovely time with your kids for Christmas. Your packaging all looks very eco-chic! I love the look of brown paper! The ribbons and embellishments make each gift unique and special!

  8. Terribly sorry to hear about your parents...I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers. I understand the pain of loosing a loved one so close to the holidays. It makes the holiday seem a little less bright without them in it.

I love the look of gifts wrapped in brown paper, I have been using this for a couple of years after finding plain and printed brown paper at the dollar store. This year I found several rolls at the Thrift store and on mark down (90%) at a retail store (Target). I see lots and lots of great ideas in your fabulous decorations on your packages. Makes me wish I had more gifts to wrap!

    Happy New Year!
