Tree of Love

I had a really bad day today. So what’s a girl to do when she is upset?  I retreat to my craft room and create something.

This was made from a free vector image that I found online. I used SCAL to trace it, then cut it out with my Cricut.



My last homage to Valentine’s Day. Yet another cushion :)  Now I feel better.

Union Jack cushion

I’ve been itching to sew something, but I haven’t had much luck in finding fabric that I like.
So I made my own.  Using my Sure Cuts A Lot software, I traced an image of the Union Jack and cut it out using my Cricut onto freezer paper.
The most difficult part was trying to get the freezer paper centered and flat.

After lots of fiddling, I got it ironed down onto my drop cloth fabric, and then painted it in. I used a dark gray and a metallic silver, although it’s hard to tell.

I sewed it together using the basic envelope pattern.
It started as this, which just wasn’t cutting it any more, so I took the cushion out and quickly tossed the cover aside :)

And here it is now

Burlap and special cushions

Here is another coffee sack cushion, made from the same bag as the last one.

These next two cushions may seem ordinary, but to my friends, they are something special.
Both of them lost their fathers and miss them terribly.
I took a shirt that each of their fathers owned and turned them into cushions. I will be bringing them to their new home tonight, at their house warming party.

Obviously each man had very different style sensibilities :)

Coffee bean sack cushion

I’ve put to use, my free coffee grain sacks that I posted about earlier, here.
I picked up this down filled cushion this past week for $4. It was the perfect width to use the coffee bean sack as is, without cutting off the binding on the sides.
I used jute to close the top, mimicking the sides. I have no idea what type of needle this is, or even where I got it, but it worked like a charm.

One thing I found out is that the burlap frays easily. I solved that by running a very fine stitch, close to the edge , then used the jute to sew it closed by hand.

Freezer Paper pillow, again

This is it for today. I really have to get my housework done :)
Some have asked for a tutorial, but honestly, it’s so easy and there are so many tutes out there.
Again, I used my Cricut, Sure Cuts A Lot software, thrifted drop cloth fabric, paint and an existing pillow form.  Cost, nothing, gotta love that.

Crushed velvet, drop cloth and freezer paper

I searched for a long time for some freezer paper and I’m happy to report that I finally found some!
While junking this past week I found a huge drop cloth that someone attempted to create a slip cover out of, without success.  With my cricut and sure cuts a lot software, I created this coral and stencilled on to the drop cloth fabric with the freezer paper. This stuff is genius :)

I also found this H U G E dress made from a gorgeous gray crushed velvet.

My daughter asked me to make some cushions for her bed. One down, a few more to go.

Now I’m thinking of all the ways I can use the freezer paper, I’m in love with this stuff.
